Armour

The armour you'll wear will depend on how you set your character up. If you decide to approach the game as I have with combat being the forefront of your character, then high dexterity combined with good strength will enable you to use armour along with the high dexterity compensating for the loss in burden. If you opt for parry then burden isn't so much as much a factor as it would be for a dodge user, but it still is. You'll also find with higher burden it will adversely affect your ability to hit, this is something you'll either have to cope with, or depending on how you play, you can switch weapon type to get around this.

A good solid armour set should consist of some metallic type armour on the outside, with layers of either cloth or leather underclothing to provide additional protection. You can pick up good cheap armour around the disc, but for the best, and you're a thief so you can afford it, go to Ug Ogg in DJB. He can custom make armour for you, material spec, colour, style, armour type, pretty much anything you need to do, he can do. Note this is expensive as he charges an extra 20% on top of normal price for thieves, but it certainly is worth it.
